Our single professional learning sessions are designed to easily fit into your day. Typically one hour or less, these sessions explore timely and relevant topics including teaching strategies, current events, and more.
Instructor-Led
This professional learning event will be led by Facing History staff. When you register, you will receive instructions for how to attend the event.
This event qualifies for Certificate of Completion.
At the conclusion of the event, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion for 1 hour of attendance. Certificates may be submitted for a school’s or district’s approval towards professional development credits. Requirements for professional development credits vary by state. It is the participant’s responsibility to ensure that they are meeting the requirements of their school, organization, and/or state.
Join us for a conversation with researcher and author, Dr. Diana E. Hess, to discuss the challenges educators are facing when teaching about controversial political issues. Together, we’ll unpack the dilemmas teachers have when engaging students in discussions of controversial political issues. We’ll also explore strategies educators can use to foster civil discourse in their classrooms, increase student engagement, and examine why it’s important for young people to develop these skills.
You will be eligible to receive one-hour of professional development credit for participation if you watch the webinar. You will be able to download a certificate of completion from your inbox within the week of the webinar. Check with your school or district in advance of the webinar to ensure that the professional development credit is accepted.
