Our single professional learning sessions are designed to easily fit into your day. Typically one hour or less, these sessions explore timely and relevant topics including teaching strategies, current events, and more.

Self-Paced

This professional learning event is self-paced and will be delivered virtually. When you register, you will receive instructions for how access and participate in the event.

This event qualifies for Certificate of Completion.

Awarded upon successful completion of the workshop for up to seven professional development hours. Requirements for professional development hours vary by state. It is the educator’s responsibility to ensure that they are meeting the requirements of their state.

This workshop introduces Facing History’s approach to teaching with current events, which includes reflection, pedagogy, and teaching strategies.

This self-paced online workshop is an introduction to Facing History’s approach to teaching with current events. It is designed to encourage reflection on your current teaching practices (Starting with Yourself), emphasize the pedagogical importance of teaching with current events (Building Your Classroom Community), and introduce new tools and strategies to organize classroom discussions on current events (Applying Teaching Strategies). The workshop is structured as a learning experience in which you engage with the materials you need most.

In this self-paced workshop, you will:

Engage in self-reflection about your identity and teaching practice
Explore ways to incorporate current events into your teaching routine
Learn tools and strategies for organizing classroom discussion around divisive or emotionally challenging current events

Who should take this self-paced workshop:

This workshop is designed for 6th through 12th grade world history, U.S. history, humanities, or English language arts teachers and curriculum specialists.

Time Commitment

We estimate that it will take about two hours to complete each of the three content modules. The modules are designed to be self-guided, and you can work at your own pace through the workshop.

Cost

Free. The registration and event fees for this online workshop have been waived, thanks to generous funding from Facing History and Ourselves donors and partner organizations.
